Mountain biking is easy as long as you have the right guidance. What it requires is the dare to do new things and to like pushing yourself beyond your limits. The only certain thing is that in the end you will be rewarded with memories and experiences that you would otherwise not have been able to gain.
Level 1 tours are designed for people with no particular experience in the world of mountain biking. They do not contain many uphill and difficult downhill sections. They are tours that pass through picturesque villages of Chania using sections of dirt roads giving the visitor a first taste of our inland.

Our trail begins at the wetlands of Agia, home to more than 130 plant species and a shelter for many birds. The local dirt roads take us to the historical bridge of Keritis, where we cross the river of the same name and head towards the village of Alikianos.
We ride through the village’s neighborhoods using narrow streets running parallel to the river and then we go uphill, once again on dirt, to reach the imposing Valsamiotis dam. With a great view before us we go downhill towards Vatolakkos, through a green and lush trail leading to the village square, where we make a brief stop to rest and enjoy a traditional Cretan treat.
Once again hitting the dirt roads, we ride through a large valley with orange trees for the village of Koufos and its byzantine church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, in her guise as the Source of Life. Always on dirt, we once again cross the Keritis river, back to Agia and our starting point.

We then head to Douliana, following a green path to the chapel of Saint John. Our next destination is Gavalochori, with its old houses and narrow backstreets and from there we carry on to the Venetian olive mill and wells of the region.
Then we turn back, through the local dirt roads covered overhead by domes of tree branches and once more through Armeni for our lunch break. After that follows the final section of the tour by the river Kiliaris, leading us to our starting point.

Our trail begins shortly after the village of Fournes. We’re immediately moving into a dirt road with thick undergrowth between large plane trees. We’re then riding by the river to enter the next dirt road leading to Meskla, under the cover of a green dome made by the branches of plane and olive trees.
We’re getting a short stop at the village fountain and are then heading towards the Sarakina gorge. We’re following the local network of dirt roads around ancient and imposing cypresses as we’re climbing to Zourva.
At the village square is a traditional tavern, ideal for a lunch break and rest. From there it’s the woods again, on the road to the fountain of Nikoliani near Meskla, before we make the return trip to Fournes.

Our trail begins at the village of Orthouni. Using the local dirt road network, we begin with an uphill ride, surrounded by lush vegetation and small streams, heading to the chapel of the Prophet Elijah. Right before the chapel, we take a moment to enjoy the great view unfolding below us, with the Cretan sea, the picturesque villages and the Chania region inland.
Following a brief ride on a paved road, we once again go uphill, this time around towards Omalo, using the dirt road from Fokies and our final destination being the sanctuary of Kallergis. This is a very alpine part, a beautiful untamed environment in the area known as Poria, with a number of historically important “koumoi”, distinctive small buildings, hidden in the region.
Once at the shelter, we make a brief stop to eat and to enjoy the view of the world-famous Samaria Gorge and the rocky formation Gigilos. From there, we go downhill on a difficult, demanding dirt road towards the Omalos plateau, in the direction of Lakkoi. The local dirt roads, again going through thick vegetation, are the final part of our trip as we end up back at our starting point.
